The room was beautiful. The service was great, I felt at home. The food was amazing. The quietness, the sound of river was priceless.

We booked by phone and Mr.Sebastien (not sure if he's the owner or manager?) gave the impression that we were inconveniencing him with our potential business. In all honesty, this was a gift given to us by family so we booked regardless of his lack of cheer or customer service.

Would we recommend it? Heck no. But maybe if you have lots of money and like to gamble on a sure fail, go ahead. It's a free country after all ;)

FYI: they advertise a package on Groupon valued at $458.90, the price of the Groupon is $149. Sounds like a super deal but considering the price on their website is $149 (which includes a room for one night, four 1/2 days of spa, sauna, and access to hiking trail, and breakfast for 2people). I'm not great in math but my question is... Is the luminotherapie worth $309.90? Don't think so.

Warning: they do offer a "four course" meal for supper that we took part in. The dining room is comfortable, decoration makes for good conversation, and the food is satisfactory though overpriced. Mr.Sebastien's service, however, leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. Also, proceed with caution when asking for the cheese platter. In typical french fare, this course would come after the main dish. And this is how it's listed on the menu. I even googled this and this is how it is. My wife, however, apparently made the mistake of asking for the cheese platter after we finished our main dish. To this, Mr.Sebastien retorted, "but I've closed my kitchen, my oven is off. The cheese is not tempered. I can serve you a cold creme brulee if you'd like." The manner in which he spoke and his attitude was a bit shocking considering that this place tries to give you the impression of a high end type of place. Needless to say, we promptly retired to our quarters and figured he just had a bad day. When we got back to our room, we realized we still had the luminotherapie we hadn't yet done. We went back down to ask him if we could do it that night or the next morning. His response was, "follow me". We followed and realized that he was setting it up for us right away. The luminotherapie consists of putting on glasses that shines lights and headphones that give off sound waves. No explanation other than, "don't open your eyes" was given. Luckily my wife and I have done this before and so we weren't freaked out. I can only imagine how my parents would have felt though... Not good in case you were wondering.

Spectacular location 1.5 hours from Montreal, very friendly and helpful staff, room very clean and nicely decorated. Excellent for romantic getaways or relaxing moments. Will definitely come back as well as recommending to our friends.

Unethical business practices. False and misleading advertising. Set up a Groupon in Gatineau using the name Nordic Spa. This is not the Nordic Spa in Gatineau. Refuses refund for selling under a false name.

Summary: not a horrible place but the price leads you to believe that it will be a high quality place, something that only leads to disappointment when you are faced with the reality of their poor service and lack of care. We certainly wouldn't return nor would we really encourage friends/family to go knowing that they would be meeting Mr.Sebastien.

When we arrived at the auberge, we were "greeted?" by Mr. Sebastien although greeting did not involve a smile or a hello. It was a fairly robotic walk through of the spa and we signed our waiver forms. By far, not the type of reception you would expect from a spa with the name "privilege" or "oasis"...

Positive note: The room we stayed in was beautifully decorated and so is the spa. There's an outdoor hot tub, dry sauna, and a wet sauna and resting areas that are comfortable. There is also a trail on the back of the property, there's a nice river and the trail is an accessible 30-40 mins walk.. Not exactly a "hiking trail" but good for an easy stroll.

My wife and I went to this spa/auberge for one night. While the building and scenery is picturesque, the magic stops there :(
